Brenda Cooper

Brenda Cooper is a futurist, a technology professional, and a science fiction author.

She has published short fiction in Analog, Oceans of the Mind, Strange Horizons, Nature, and other periodicals. Brenda and Larry Niven collaborated on the novel Building Harlequin's Moon, which came out in 2005. Her first solo novel, The Silver Ship and the Sea (2007) won the Endeavor Award, which is given each year to a distinguished science fiction or fantasy book written by a Pacific Northwest author. Reading the Wind came out in 2008, and her newest book, Wings of Creation, comes out in November 2009.

By day, Brenda is the CIO of the City of Kirkland, Washington, and at night and in early morning hours, she's a futurist and writer. She is interested in how new technologies might change us and our world, particularly for the better, and in global warming.

As a futurist, Brenda has worked with Glen Hiemstra for more than 10 years. She writes regularly for Futurist.com and gives talks about the future, technology, and writing. As a technology professional, Brenda started out in aerospace, where she worked on some of the early efforts to apply knowledge engineering to the field.
