Mike Gering has been president of Global Solar Energy since 2001, following an 18-year career at Litton Industries and culminating with his serving as president of Litton Advanced Systems Inc., with sales of over $200 million. Mike previously spent 25 years with the U.S. Marine Corps, retiring with the rank of Colonel. A graduate of the Citadel, Mike has a BS and additional management education through the Wharton School and Harvard Business School.
Since joining Global Solar, Mike has used his expertise in bringing new products to market, taking the company from a research & development focus of new thin-film Copper Indium Gallium diSelenide (CIGS) solar cells to a manufacturer of flexible, portable solar products using the new CIGS thin-film technology. Since 2003, while under Mike's direction, Global Solar has been successfully manufacturing finished goods using the new thin-film CIGS solar technology.
Mike has continued to work with the company's technology, product development, and manufacturing groups to create solar products that are economical to manufacture and sell to consumers. Global Solar is now selling approximately 50,000 portable, flexible solar products per year. Mike helped to secure the company's largest-million-dollar military contract, supplying the Military SP4 portable solar power pack product to thousands of CECOM soldiers all over the world.
