Nitash P. Balsara is a co-founder of Seeo, a professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of California-Berkeley, and a faculty associate scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. His research is concerned with the synthesis and characterization of microstructured polymer materials for a wide variety of applications, including batteries and fuel cells.

Nitash began his academic career with a bachelor's degree from the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur, India, in 1982; a master's degree from Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York, in 1984; and a Ph.D. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, in 1988. He did post-doctoral research at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at the University of Minnesota and at Exxon Research and Engineering Co. in Annandale, New Jersey.

In 1992, Nitash joined the faculty of the Department of Chemical Engineering at Polytechnic University in Brooklyn, New York, as an assistant professor. He was promoted to associate professor in 1996 and professor in 1998. In 2000, he moved to the University of California-Berkeley. He received the National Science Foundation "Young Investigator" award in 1994, the John H. Dillon Medal for Polymer Physics from the American Physical Society and the "Engineer of the Year" award from the American Institute of Engineers of Indian Origin in 1997, the Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar award and the Van Ness Lectureship in 1998, the Stine Award for Materials Science from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers in 2005, and the Technology Transfer award from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in 2007.
