Preventative Medicine | Ground-Breaking Geneticist Craig Venter

J. Craig Venter, PhD, is regarded as one of the leading scientists of the 21st century for his numerous invaluable contributions to genomic research. Dr. Venter is the founder, chair, and CEO of the J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI), a not-for-profit research organization with approximately 200 scientists and staff dedicated to human, microbial, plant, synthetic, and environmental genomic research, and the exploration of social and ethical issues in genomics.

He is a co-founder of Synthetic Genomics Inc. (SGI) and Human Longevity Inc. (HLI). SGI is a privately held company developing products and solutions including sustainable bio-fuels, vaccines, biotherapeutics, and transplantable organs; HLI is a genomic-based health intelligence company empowering proactive healthcare.

Transforming 21st Century Medicine | Systems Biology Revolutionary Leroy Hood

A world-renowned scientist and recipient of the National Medal of Science, Dr. Leroy Hood co-founded the Institute for Systems Biology (ISB) in 2000 and served as its first president until 2017. In 2016, when ISB affiliated with Providence St. Joseph Health, Hood became PSJH’s senior VP and chief science officer. He is also chief strategy officer and a professor at ISB, and a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, and the National Academy of Medicine. Of the more than 6,000 scientists worldwide who belong to one or more of these academies, Lee Hood is one of only 20 elected to all three.
