Cell phones, laptops, and other electronic devices can be hacked. Tight security measures are needed to guarantee privacy. This will only become more important as billions of Internet of Things (IoT) devices are coming to market in the future.

Randomness is important in cryptography to ensure that secret keys are random, to provide tight security against attacks, to guarantee privacy and anonymity, and to ensure unpredictability. Cryptography needs to be built directly into the end device’s chip.

Different approaches to random number generators exist. They can be algorithmic or physical. Algorithmic approaches are much more common. However, the fact that they were programmed to follow some algorithmic logic prevents them from being perfectly random. This poses a security risk. Advances in quantum computing will likely make exploiting algorithmic approaches even easier. (Although, the jury on when these might happen is still out). By using natural physical processes, solutions can be truly random. However, current approaches tend to be very expensive, temperature-sensitive, or otherwise hard to incorporate into consumer devices.

RANDAEMON is working on a physical solution for a true random number generator. The solution is centered around beta decay and will produce perfect random numbers. It will also be inexpensive to make and easy to integrate into typical chips. Finally, it will not be affected by temperature, pressure, acceleration and magnetic or electric fields.

BioLogiQ’s vision is a world free of pollution caused by plastic packaging. The company mission is to provide a way for people to use environmentally friendly plastic products made from renewable resources.

BioLogiQ’s NuPlastiQ^® BioPolymer, made in Idaho, is a unique type of thermoplastic resin made with a proprietary process that converts high-crystalline starch powder into a low-crystalline (mostly amorphous) plastic resin. NuPlastiQ is supplied in pellet form. This thermoplastic material has many properties which are desirable for manufacturing a variety of products, including films and bags, injection-molded parts, blow-molded bottles, and thermoformed parts.

NuPlastiQ is made from annually renewable agricultural resources. BioLogiQ uses starch that remains after processing potatoes into potato chips and french fries. Globally, 0.4% of the weight of all potatoes grown is turned into starch that is not used for human consumption.

While NuPlastiQ can be used alone for some applications, it is generally blended with other plastic materials. BioLogiQ’s proprietary process for making NuPlastiQ with its unique properties allows it to be easily blended with other plastic resins, including both fossil-fuel and bio-based materials.

While extremely stable in normal use, because of its natural, starch-based origin, NuPlastiQ is highly susceptible to biodegradation by enzymatic reactions caused by the introduction of humidity (water) and bacteria or other microorganisms. BioLogiQ’s NuPlastiQ has been tested to EN 13432 and ASTM D-6400 and has received Vincotte’s “OK Compost” certificate #S600 for compostability.

Aromyx has designed a cost-effective and stable way to put the human olfactory receptors on a bioassay, avoiding the use of live cell lines, and in a disposable bioassay format customers can use on their own premises. Unlike chemical sensors or mass spectrometry, the Aromyx EssenceChip system shows the biochemical signals that a cup of coffee, a sniff of perfume, or a glass of wine send to the brain, as mediated by the human nose and tongue.

The bioassay reveals the same biochemical signals that the nose and tongue send to the brain in response to a flavor or fragrance. It scientifically records flavors and fragrances, with reproducible results. The output of Aromyx’s bioassay has a direct correlation to what a person smells and what the brain experiences.

The Aromyx approach maintains both the sensitivity and specificity – the ability to discriminate – of the human nose and tongue. The collection of biochemical signals is represented by a digital aromagraph.

Using groundbreaking technology developed and licensed in association with the University of Pennsylvania, Atrin’s bioresearch has led to the development of a portfolio of drug candidates with multiple mechanisms of action. Its lead program is a novel series of water-soluble, orally bioavailable, highly potent small-molecule inhibitors of ATR for clinical application.

Two pilot in vivo studies have been performed with oral administration of the lead drug: one with human colon cancer, and a second in which patient-derived BRCA2 mutant ovarian tumor samples were orthotopically transplanted into mice to provide a patient-derived xenograft (PDX) tumor model. Both in vivo models demonstrated that mono-therapy is able to significantly suppress tumor growth, while combinational therapy with standard of care showed tumor growth regression. The MEPS unit solves a problem of ethanol production in that the automated, smaller-size units can be located closer to often bulky waste-feed stocks, eliminating large transportation costs and energy inefficiencies. The modular and scalable design allows for ethanol production to be tested on feed stocks in a limited fashion and then expanded to any size. EES can build ethanol plants from .5 million up to 5 million gallons and any multiples connected thereof. EES went public with the MEPS technology in January 2009 and already has over 1,000 systems quoted worldwide at a total value of quotations outstanding of over $3 billion.

The economics are substantive – a 2 billion U.S. annual market for OTC anti-infectives alone. The IP portfolio supporting this innovation can be deployed in health, dentistry, agriculture, food, hospitality, and the home. Clinical studies are under way, and a peer-reviewed study was published in October 2008 showing the efficacy of LOW concentration hypochlorous acid in-vitro. Over $250,000 USD of the product has been sold in Korea over the last three years. Vesta is seeking venture funding to address productization and regulatory clearance in order to monetize the IP by way of licensing.

Global Solar Energy is a solar-industry leader that manufactures highly efficient thin-film solar cells for glass module or flexible material products. Global Solar is the only Copper Indium Gallium diSelenide (CIGS) manufacturer in full-scale production on a flexible substrate and has achieved 10% average solar-cell efficiency. Global Solar has developed a proprietary process for manufacturing thin-film CIGS photovoltaic (PV) cells and modules.
