About Me

John Mattison is currently chief medical information officer and health tech advisor at Arsenal Capital Partners and strategic advisor to a wide range of portfolio companies in biotech, health tech, and care delivery. Previously, he was CMIO at Kaiser Permanente, where he led the company’s $3B digital transformation.
 

John was formerly a strategic consultant to the NHS healthcare system, a board member of MaxHealth (value-based healthcare delivery), and a board member of SNOMED International data interoperability standards. He was the founder of the international interoperability standard for electronic health records, known as the clinical document architecture (CDA), formerly chaired the translational science workgroup at Global Alliance for Genomics and Health (GA4GH), and is an AI policy contributor at Duke Margolis Center, the AMA, the Helena Group, the Rockefeller Foundation, and UC San Diego.


John has been a contributor to Biosecurity in the Age of AI (Helenabiosecurity.org) and scholar-in-residence on responsible AI and advanced technologies at UC San Diego’s Center for Healthcare Design. He teaches exponential medicine with Singularity University, serves as a strategic advisor to numerous AI-enabled health tech startups, and is a contributor to the Human Immunome Project (TREAT California). He is also a member of eHealth Exchange, the Covaxcen Initiative (Northwestern University), and the AMA Digital Medicine Payment advisory group. 
 

John is co-editor of the textbook Healthcare Information Technology (McGraw Hill, 2018) and co-author on numerous publications on topics ranging from NLP, immunology, large-scale systems, and data interoperability to IOT and person-centric healthcare. He conducts workshops and delivers keynotes across four continents on health tech and policy and is currently focused on the convergence of multiple exponential technologies in health tech.
